The PLDT Smart Foundation and Cinemabuhay today announced the start of the submission process for script entries to the 2009 competition. The PSF foundation makes an annual award of one million pesos for a script by a new filmmaker.

Previous awardees have included “Numbalikdiwa,” 2007 and “Cul de Sac,” 2008. “Numbalikdiwa” was written and directed by Bobby Salvador and recently had its cable TV premier on Cinema One.

“Cinemabuhay hopes to discover future writers, directors and producers by giving them a chance to showcase their talent on a world stage,” said Albert Martinez, Cinemabuhay head.

“We look forward to as many entries as possible for 2009. People can submit their entries to the PLDT Smart Foundation office,” said PSF President Butch Meily

“Cul de Sac” is currently being filmed by 2008 grant winner Juan Miguel Sevilla. Its actors include Sam Milby, Jodi Santamaria and Chin-Chin Gutierrez. Cinemabuhay was founded in August 2005 by a group led by Mr. Martinez. Mr. Martinez put together a working group of creative and production people who helped screen the initial entries and choose the winner.
